What do we mean by “The Best Personality Test”?
In simple terms, the best personality test for you simply means that it helps you achieve your objectives more effectively than any other personality assessment tool.
So what works for you may not be right for someone else and visa versa.
In this article, we are going to look at a number of ways you can evaluate any system you are considering. This is a process you can use regardless of which system you are considering.
We are not going to review each system and pass an opinion. There are other articles out there that take this approach but it’s not that helpful. What you need is a series of questions to ask that will help you draw your own conclusions. Not much point in just taking someone else’s opinion. The chances are they have not actually used all of these systems in the real world and are therefore just passing an opinion based on what they have read.
What’s your Application?
The starting point is to be clear about what you are trying to achieve. What is your application?
- Are you recruiting?
- Are you coaching?
- Are you working with existing staff?
- Are you team building?
It is essential that you are clear about what you are trying to do before you go any further. Some systems are good at one thing and useless at another. Some systems for instance tell you not to use them in recruitment at all.
There is no such thing as a general personality report, or at least there shouldn’t be. It’s a bit like buying a book. You wouldn’t go into a bookshop and ask for a book….just any book will do. You would of course ask for a book about something in particular.
The Best Personality Test For Recruitment

How long does the questionnaire take?
Some can take up to an hour. Do you really want to ask people to take an hour out of their day to fill in a long, boring questionnaire?
Research has shown that long questionnaires do not necessarily deliver better results and in fact, research by Paul Klien demonstrated that long questionnaires introduce significant user fatigue and deliver poorer results.
The questionnaire has to deliver accurate results but this can be achieved with short questionnaires if they have been designed properly.
