Personality Keywords 2012 by Julie Gibbons

Design 2012 the way you want it to be

A creative exercise to design the year you want

Saying goodbye to the old year and welcoming in the new. It’s quite a responsibility, and traditionally we have chosen a set of resolutions to help us make the transition to a new, better year.

In my community of creative souls, we are most likely to ditch the resolutions, which can often seem harsh and constraining (and therefore easily broken), in favour of choosing a word for the year. A positive, life-affirming word with which we can infuse our year ahead, enhancing our experience and becoming increasingly mindful, allowing you to set more thoughtful, creative goals.

It was when I was working on this exercise for myself that Martin asked me if it was something I could turn into an exercise for you, especially as I was using some of my personality ‘keywords’ to help me dig deeper towards the root of my core self.

So I did just that, and I sincerely hope you find it useful… Read on to see if it’s something that will resonate with you.

This is an amazing helpful tool in the battle against lame resolutions! I found it eerily accurate and insightful. This can go a long way in helping to create meaningful and magical life changes.

What is Personality Word of the Year?

It’s an exercise with which you can mindfully create a year in service to your true, authentic self. It is the gift of time and exploration. Personality Word of the Year is a personality report with a difference. You will be given a set of words that represent qualities based on your Jungian personality type. Then you will be given a series of prompts to explore ; questions you will be asked to consider concerning your response to the words that have been allocated to you.

You will need half an hour to an hour of undisturbed time and you’ll need some pens and a notebook, or piece of paper. It will require you to do some thinking and investigation and engage with some of your creativity. But don’t let that put you off. It’s really very easy. And here’s the beautiful thing – you already have all the answers – after all, who knows you better than yourself?

Personality reports are useful tools for learning more about self. But it really doesn’t matter how accurate they are if all you do as a reader is take the test and accept – or disagree with – the results! In actual fact, most of your answers are still to come – a personality report is only ever a starting point.

With a little time and effort you can use your personality keywords to gain a deeper understanding of yourself beyond the very obvious. This understanding is what will allow you to live up to your true potential. The universal truth is that you really are capable of anything you choose but of course, circumstance can mean that we are often limited in what we actually achieve (or more importantly, what we are prepared to believe.)

What I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it. ~ anon

I’ve designed this exercise to give you a starting point in making the year 2012 the best year it can possible be – with a little guidance from you! You will end up choosing just one word which will act as your guide throughout the forthcoming year. After all, 2012 is only ever going to happen one time. Each day that passes can never be relived!

You will then use the word to create some goals for the year ahead, considering some key aspects of your whole life. If you’ve been stuck on what goals to set, or are unsure of how to get started, we’ve included a little more about goal setting and your personality, to make sure you create goals you are truly ready to invest in!

This softly structured method of tapping into who you are and revealing the parts of you that you both own and disown is extremely powerful.  The creative journalling exercises allow self exploration to a level you are comfortable with and has lead me to a knowing I hadn’t previously been aware of.  I have used many different methods to choose words for the year, this is one which can be whatever you want it to be – a guide, a mantra, a way of being, a kick up the backside and a chance to be yourself. It has a groundedness which complements perfectly some of my other methods!

Can’t Draw For Toffee? Don’t worry – it’s not that kind of creative!

I believe that we are truly all creative. Often we are investing our creativity in delivering for other people. Coming up with creative solutions to save time and money at work or creatively hiding nutritious veg in a stubborn toddler’s lunch, each day,we are likely to perform some creative action – this is nothing new to you, believe me!

Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain. ~ Carl G Jung

By exploring our answers to the questions in this exercise with a pen and paper, we are more easily able to reveal secrets and tap intocreative solutions, than by sheer brain power alone, but you don’t to get all arty about it.

And of course, if you’re inclined towards coloured pens, paints, crayons, collage or mindmaps to help you in your exploration, then that’s all to the well and good. These prompts and the personality information that goes alongside will give you a starting point with which to fully engage your artistic streak!

Dig Deeper and Design Your Perfect 2012

Investigating your self is never really a journey with a final destination – once you’ve unlocked the door, there’s never an end to the path of questions. Certainly, there will never be an end to the circumstances that arrive time and again to try and knock you off your chosen path.

With time and effort invested in designing the lives you really want to live, you can pay attention to more of it, create a better understanding of it – and achieve more of your dreams along the way.You will lose some of the baggage that you feel slows you down and although obstacles will still appear, you’ll be far better equipped to leap over them.

What an amazing resource that not only gave me a huge dose of insight into my present circumstances, but which will most surely become a touchstone for me as the year unfolds.

The words that were suggested to me were not ones I had previously identified with, but they really resonated. And once I started to work through the inspirational accompanying exercises, I soon discovered a whole new depth to the report – one which made it even more illiminating, even more revealing!

If you’re looking to understand yourself better in 2012 then this report will absolutely get you off to a good start. It’ll help you identify key areas for growth and discovery, and it will show you where you’ve been resisting stepping into your light.

With the insights delivered in this report, I just know that 2012 will be *my* year! Will it be your year too?
