What is a Psychometric Test?

Here is an example of the psychometric test questionnaire.

You will see that it offers four statements and asks you to select which one is MOST like you.

It will then ask you to select which one is LEAST like you.

You will then be asked to select one of the two remaining statements; one of which will be MORE like you than the other.

The questions can be tricky as they come in pairs of statements. THis is a feature that makes this questionnaire extremely accurate. Answering 50 to 100 simple A / B statements is a crude device compared to what you see here.

There is much misunderstanding about what a psychometric test actually is. Firstly we are specifically talking about personality tests here, which is what most people mean when they use the term “psychometric test”. All personality tests are psychometric tests, but not all psychometric tests are about personality.

For one it’s not a test. I know that sounds crazy but it should be more accurately referred to as an assessment. You see a test implies that there is a right or wrong answer. That there is a good result or a bad result. That there is something that can be passed or failed. But there isn’t.

It’s not possible to fail a psychometric test as it is not a test.

There is no right or wrong answer.

There is no such thing as a good or bad personality type.

It’s no wonder that people get confused. Somewhere along the way we started referring to it as a test and it sort of stuck. Unfortunately that’s how people view it and often view it negatively.

Instead you should use a psychometric test to enhance your understanding of self and others. It is not something anyone can pass or fail. It’s about verbalising something that most of us have great difficulty with.

Your personality affects everything you say, think and do. Every decision you make is influenced by your personality, so it is important that you understand what’s going on “under the hood”.

To my opinion is that this test is conducted to see if the person personlity fits with certain code of conduct of certain society or company. But with the personality of a person to be judged whether right or wrong is hectic since always a person is struggling to live the best to the fullest in his/her daily life.
