What is an Aptitude Test?
You may have been told that you have a natural aptitude for something. Well the PeopleMaps Aptitude Test is designed to help you discover what comes naturally to you and the type of environments you should avoid.
There are plenty of free online aptitude test resources out there.
Numerical Reasoning Aptitude Test
If the job you are applying for requires good numeracy then the chances are you will be asked to complete some numerical reasoning aptitude tests.
Even if you are not going to be working with numbers (and counting on your fingers), some companies will still ask you to take a test because it helps them turn their long list of 100 down to a short list of 5.
Practice will help. There are places where you can find plenty of practice tests. Once you have done a few and seen what’s involved you will get better at them.
So even if you don’t agree with them, you still may want to get good at them.
Verbal Reasoning Aptitude Test
Typically you will be have to read a short passage of text. You are then asked to answer a few questions usually by stating True, False or Cannot Say. It’s a bit like interpretation from school English class.
It’s allegedly testing your ability to extract data from text and not impose what you believe it said.
Diagrammatic Reasoning Aptitude Test
These are designed to assess your logical reasoning. Whether they achieve this, I’m not so sure. I think they will test if you are good at these tests. Not sure if one can extrapolate further. Not sure if it’s any predictor of performance.
Personality Aptitude Test
Personality tests is really what PeopleMaps specialises in. The more accurate term would be personality assessment. It’s not a test because there are no right or wrong answers.
No amount of practice is going to help you, however familiarity with your own personality is essential if you are to make good career decisions.
Career Aptitude Test
A career aptitude test or job aptitude test, is essentially designed to help you make better career decisions. If the work you choose is not compatible with your personality then it’s unlikely to work out for you in the long run. You can try career aptitude test uk
Who Uses An Aptitude Test?
Employers use them a lot. Often they are simply trying to find a rational easy way to reduce a candidate list from 400 to 4.
Personality assessments can of course be used in all aspects of your life as your personality is affecting everything you say, think and do. Every decision you make is affected by your personality, so everyone should use a personality aptitude test at least.
What To Look For In An Aptitude Test If You Are An Employer
The only test PeopleMaps uses when employing people, is a personality test.
There are probably better ways of attracting the right applicants, that don’t involve, throwing out huge nets that catch large numbers of candidates. I suspect that it is this issue that forces employers to find various tests to reduce the long list to a short list.
What Should You Look For In An Aptitude Test If You Are Job Hunting?
If you are job hunting then take all the practice tests you can. You cannot practice for your personality test but you can familiarise yourself with it. All other tests can be practised.
